Birth of a Tide

Birth of a Tide is a multidisciplinary collective exhibition project built from a curatorial vision originally conceived and executed by Rob Woodcox and Marie Thibouméry, and represented and coordinated by Banana Contemporary.

It is based on the gathering of international artists who reflect on the renewal of the sacred feminine as a source of artistic, cultural, and political power, with revolutionary and healing possibilities.

Its structure is designed as a reproducible format in multiple cities, in which each edition brings together a unique group of local artists who engage in dialogue with this theme. The proposal focuses on vivid and interconnected contemporary topics such as feminism, revolutionary politics, the mystical dimensions of female community, and artistic creation understood as a collective therapeutic exercise, all framed by the photographs from the Birth of a Tide series, created at General Prim, Mexico, 2024, by Woodcox and Thibouméry, produced by Banana Contemporary.

The first edition of Birth of a Tide took place in Paris, France, and included works by artists Rob Woodcox (USA), Marie Thibouméry (France), Gustavo García Murrieta (Mexico), Gigi Recny (USA), Valentine Golinelli (Switzerland), Makan Negahban (USA), Zahra Mansoor (Pakistan), Macha Pangilinan (Russia), Mahsa Salali (Iran), Vivian Assal (Iran), and Dune Varela de Seijas (France).
